- Dear Prospective Player,
-
- With the gaining of popularity in telecommunications a need
- has risen for games to allow competition amongst fellow users.
- 'TeleCards' was developed with this concept in mind.
-
- Most people enjoy playing cards. On a PC, card playing is
- very popular and easy to do alone. Having the computer as your
- opponent has made this approach possible. I, however, discovered
- computer opponents to be either too difficult to beat or no
- challenge at all. What I see lacking is the human factor. The
- simple mistakes we all make, i.e. like not paying attention and
- playing the wrong card. The computer, on the other hand, cannot
- make a mistake. In fact it can remember far better than us and
- most often will play the most optimum move. So we humans are at a
- disadvantage.
-
- To my knowledge it is impossible to play another person at
- any card game using the same PC. Why? Think about it for a
- minute. How could you display each players hand without the other
- knowing what is in their opponents hand? Thus the idea for
- 'TeleCards' was born.
-
- By linking two computers together via a modem or NULL modem,
- I was limited in my development to games where only two players
- could play. Cribbage and Gin Rummy are both essentially two
- player card games, while Crazy Eights is fine for 2 or more.
- These three games are all incorporated into 'TeleCards'.
-
- For information on how to start and play 'TeleCards' view or
- print the file, TCINFO.DOC.
-
- The registration fee for 'TeleCards' is a mere $20.00. Since
- it takes two players to use, the fee can be split in half with
- each player paying only $10.00! Those who do register will receive
- the direct link version plus all updates and any enhancements to
- the product free!
-
- 'TeleCards' was written in C, using Microsoft's QuickC 2.5 to
- create the .EXE file. Credit must be given to Mike Dumdei for his
- MCOMM5 communication routines and to Magna Carta Software for
- their screen and windowing routines. I would also like to thank
- my friend John Manning for coming up with the term 'TeleCards'.

- The program was tested on a limited base of equipment. If,
- in the course of your playing of 'TeleCards', you encounter any
- difficulties or if you have any questions, I would very much like
- to hear from you. Please printout the file, TCCMNT.FRM and fill
- it out and mail it to the address listed on the form. NO
- REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED! When I receive your form, you
- automatically become a regitered user. Or if you prefer, I can be
- reached at at (206)644-8475 between 9am - 3pm PST Monday thru
- Friday or leave me a note on PC MAGNET, via CompuServe at
- 70162,3302.
-
- I truly do hope you enjoy 'TeleCards'.
-
- Sincerely,
-
- Kevin T. Kohler
- Developer of 'TeleCards'.
-
- P.S.
- I have further plans for 'TeleCards'. One is a multi-line BBS
- version that would allow for 3 or more players. With this
- capability the number of card games possible to develop increases
- greatly. I envision a 'true' graphics version. I have recently
- purchased the tools to accomplish this, but I foresee 6 months to
- complete the project. Another vision is a LAN version. Anyone
- having access to a NOVELL Netware LAN please let me hear from you.
